Bay horses have a gene that directs the black pigment to the dark points of the bay horse, such as the mane, tips of the ears, tail, and lower legs. Perhaps the most famous bay was Seabiscuit. Seabiscuit as a light bay who is known for winning the triple crown in the late 1930's. He also had the incredible feat of holding the title of Horse of the Year in 1938.
